I am on an amazing journey
I am listening to every 1994 show in order, mining for gold.
Set 1 Highlights: Incredible Vince night! Check out Me and My Uncle>Big River. Jerry is in great form for Row Jimmy and Lazy River Road. And hey, we get a Spoonful. AND Midnight Hour as the first-set closer?!? It's pretty much a MIDI disaster, but I'll take it. Something in the icing tonight.
Set 2 HIGHlights: Samson is a rager. Vince kills it, and then Jerry blasts New Speedway Boogie out of the park. Wall-to-wall '94 goodness in the second set. Truckin' peak jam is worth catching, as well as the He's Gone. Everyone is performing well. I actually like this show better than Buckeye. Spanish Jam out of Space into Last TIme>Black Peter>Good Lovin'?!?!?!?!! XD

birthday presents
I couldn't sit down at this show, for all sorts of sonic reasons. Those attending were especially delighted with all the tight AND trippy vocal harmonies on the eve of Jerry's birthday - especially on Loose Lucy, Speedway, He's Gone, an exceptional Black Peter, and The Weight....Drums>Space scared and seared people that night, in my acoustic vicinity. One of my buddies had to leave the Palace and virtually didn't speak again for the rest of the summer. Don't underestimate Dead Sonics, folks!
Keith Litzenberger's AUD recording of this show is highly recommended.

Wow!
I was at this show. My traveling buddy and I had 100s of balloons we handed out to celebrate Jerry's birthday this night and the next! What an incredible 1st set! I've been to 150+ Grateful Dead concerts since 1969 and IMHO, this is probably one of the best 1st sets I had ever been present for at a Grateful Dead concert! All I can say again is "WOW"!!!
Enjoy this archive,

Excellent Sound
This has excellent sound, but God do I hate Vince. I dont know how I was able to ignore him through all those shows, but now its almost impossible to listen to a show from '92 on. Every time he sings it sounds as if he just sat on his nuts. Just looking at a setlist you can pretty much predict exactly what vince would be playing, the same tired phrases he always plays during any given song. The only uncertainty would be how often he would stomp all over Jerry's solos during the show. After Brent and Bruce, they should've went without keyboards alltogether. Maybe just have a piano up there hoping Bruce would fill in and if he didn't, let a cat walk over the keys, that would be close if not better than what Vince was doing....Five stars for sound quality only.

you have to be a Deadhead...
...to get it
And to appreciate what Jerry's slow decline was like I can point to the Row Jimmy this night as a reference...at the show itself and on an aud tape of it you can barely hear Jerry's solo in Row Jimmy; I had to really strain to hear it...and the same is true on this SBD...why was the band no 30% louder then Jerry and not the other way around? Was he so lost in his own monitor mix that he didn't know he was barely audible over the PA? Or was he so worried about his chops that he deliberately kept the volume low?
Like any show, I'll eat up drums & space but by this point in their career a really good show was far and few between. Yes, there are plenty of interesting moments but this is an average show on the downside of their long run.

O' WELL???
after reading that review I thought I'd change a few things..some worked(NEW screen name)... my actual review below cannot be changed at this time>all apologies for writing peoples names and or anything else that may be inappropriate n here! Its not my style and not the best idea so if I can change it I will. I think we should know by now that things worth changing can take more time then we would like... although life is that way also & would be too easy if that were not true...
PEACE & ALL THE BEST>
ALWAYS...

Our first show...a sweet one inDeed...
AND IF KIETH OLSEN(old friend I had tickets with)...3 rows off off floor left side of stage. No Joking, I went to my first show with Kieth Olsen! Never thought of it as being significant until I read the autobiography(Jerry's) by Blair Jackson recently....Anyway Kieth Olsen you crazy sun of a bitch if you somehow see this get my #! I hope you and family are well and I would love to patch that high school bullshit up and see another show together...tell me that wouldn't be a fuckin crazy time! And Sherman(looked like Brent Mydland when he had long hair) I mean exactly like him and he toured so some of yall no him. I miss those two cats and I hope all is well! The show...It was my first dead show and I'm pretty sure the Palace started spinning and lifted off into space...or was that the next night? Anyway it happened and there were witnesses I swear!!! Remember Truckin perfectly except it felt like I was under red water that was streaky a bit with yellow and lime green. Almost like someone dumped a few pales of color into the water for fun..lol. I know people like to relive the glory days but if you see the Grateful Dead for the first time at..17 it dont get better but I'll have fun tryin! I had a bad mouth but my words weren't ALL obscene...72% to be exact...and the other half convincing authority I was a clean cut non stoner..lol
it worked a few times(like acting) A few other moments I'll keep to tell another day. Whats up Rochester folks from back in the day and if ya here somethin about me...its all true except for the stuff that other guy did... ONLY ME is what I'm sure most of yall would say(lol) and I agree. I'm older now but dull moments are few and far between and life is still a trip...I wouldn't have it any other way...LIFE IS GOOD
PEACE and all the best to all the good people as well as the assholes talkin shit. I have love for all YALL!
get my number somehow and call me(and bring your girl 2)
BYE ALL!
